Puli koddel

                      This is a sweet and spicy curry.  I learnt this from my Sudha pachi in Mulleria.  She  prepares this excellently.  Its my husband’s favourite dish and she never forgets to prepare this whenever we go there.  Since this is an No onion No Garlic dish this is prepared in our temples also.

Ingredients
    1. Ash Gourd (kuvale)  —  1/2  kg  cut into cubes
    2. Grated coconut  — ½  coconut
    3. Red chillli —  9 to 10
    4. Coriander seeds  —  2 tsp
    5. Hing   — a pinch
    6. Methi seeds   —   ¼ tsp
    7. Urad dal   —   2 tsp
    8. Sesame seeds (white)   —  1 tbsp.
    9. Tamarind – a gooseberry sized piece
    10. Jaggery   —  2 lemon sized pieces
    11. Curry leaves – few
    12. Mustard seeds – 1tsp
    13. Coconut oil   — 1tbs
    14. Salt to taste
Method:-
Pressure cook ash gourd with salt and jaggery for 2-3 whistles. (Remember not to overcook).
For masala
  1. Heat 1 ½ tbsp. oil in kadai, add coriander seeds, methi seeds, urad dal, sesame seeds
  2. fry for a minute then add grated coconut.
  3. When coconut becomes light brown add red chilly and fry till dark brown.
  4. Then grind it to coarse paste along with the tamarind.
  5. Add this masala into the boiled vegetable and boil for 5 to 10 minutes.
  6. Heat ½ tbsp oil in a frying pan add mustard seeds, pinch of hing and curry leaves.
  7. Pour this on the boiling curry.
  8. Puli koddel is ready to serve with hot white rice.

    at what step we use coriander seeds is not mentioned .. also in ingredients there is no mustard .. pls can you edit the recipe and post the exact one

      The recipe has been edited and is now the exact one .. mustard was written instead of coriander . Please check now
