In summers when Mangoes were in plenty and all could not be consumed by the family – our clever elders just sun dried them  well so that they could be used when mangoes were out of season ! This is Ambe sat  – sweet and sour in taste and healthy too ! If dried and stored properly – it will keep for 1-2 years ! Ambesatta tamballi is a very old amchi recipe !
Here I am sharing the recipe of my FB friend – Chitra Shenoy‎  which she learnt from her own  mother !

Ingredients :-

  1. Ambe sat – 2 inch piece
  2. Jaggery – 1/2 cup
  3. Coconut  grated  – 1 cup
  4. Roasted red chillies – 4 to 6
  5. Salt to taste

For tempering :-

  1. Oil 1 tbsp (preferably coconut oil)
  2. Mustard – 1 tsp
Method :-
  • Soak ambe sat in warm water for minimum half an hour to make it soft.
  • Once the sat is soft grind it along with other ingredients to smooth paste with sufficient water.
  • Transfer the ground masala into a bowl and temper it with oil and Mustard seeds.
  • Enjoy the lip smacking tambli with rice, dosa, chapati or as it is !
