Nuchi is Konkani Coconut Rice,usually prepared for breakfast.This is a delicious and a simple breakfast cooked in less time.It’s also called as Kani Phanna in some parts of karnataka.Kani is nothing broken rice.
This breakfast can be had with pickles.At our house we prefer to have it with Batato Ambado or with any kind of Veggie Bajo.

Ingredients:-
- Raw Rice – 1 cup (I used Jeerakashala Rice)
- Coconut grated – 1/4 th cup
- Salt – as per taste
Seasoning:-
- Mustard – 1tsp
- Methi seeds – 1 tsp
- Green chillies – 2 nos chopped
- Curry leaves – few
- Ghee/Oil – 1 tbsp
Method:-
Wash rice and keep aside.Heat a Cooker pan with ghee/oil.Splutter mustard seeds and methi in it.
Add chopped green chillies and curry leaves.Saute for a minute.
Now add 2 and 1/4 th of cup of water and salt.Bring to boil.
Now add the washed rice.Give a stir.Close the lid of the pan and cook on medium flame for 2 whistles.
Switch off gas.Open the lid of the cooker when it is completely cool.
Now add coconut gratings and mix very well.
Nuchi is ready to serve.
Note:-
1. You can use any variety of white rice to prepare this Breakfast.
2.Water quantity and whistle depends upon the rice you use.So add water and adjust cooker whistle accordingly.
3.Can use Red chillies in place of green chillies.
4.If you like to add onions,can saute them after the seasoning and garnish coriander leaves along with coconut.(but this is not included in the traditional recipe).
Nuchhi is forgotten traditional breakfast item of konkanis. With coconut oil it tastes yummy.Will give a try soon. Thanks for sharing.
