Surnu / Elephant Foot yam is known for its wide medicinal benefits and nutritional profile.and its consumption is beneficial to health . GSB Cuisine makes ample use of it and we have several delicious recipes which have all been complied in this blog . Here is another one as side dish – which me as a kid would refer to as Fish Fry because of its appearance 😀 Since this is tawa fried – it makes for a healthy snack too , So let’s see the recipe right away
Ingredients :-
- Surnu / Elephant foot yam – 250 gms
- Chill Powder – 1 to 2 tsps as per taste
- Hing – a pinch
- Salt to taste
- Oil for shallow frying
Method :-
Cut the yam into square 1/2 inch thick slices , Place in a steamer and pressure cook for just one whistle , See that the pieces have just cooked but are still firm and not soft .
Take the salt , chilli powder & hing in a bowl and mix well.
Coat the pieces with this mixture well
Add some oil on a hot tawa and arrange the pieces on it , let roast on low flame .
Flip after they have browned
Remove when they have turned crisp and roasted well , enjoy as a side dish with rice or as a snack with tea !
