Batato Piyava Song

                               “Batato Piyava song” is a lip- smacking unique dish of GSB Mangalore. This is an age old recipe carried forward from generation after generation. Enjoy it. 
Ingredients:-
  • Big size potatoes –  2
  • Big size onion –  4.
  • Grated coconut. –  2 Cups.
  • Roasted red chillies  -10 (Ramnad).
  • Tamarind  – 1 marble size.
  • Coriander seeds  – 1 tbsp.
  • Coconut oil  – 3 tbsp.
  • Salt to taste.
 Batato Piyava Song
Method:-
  1. Wash the potatoes and pressure cook it. When it is cooked peel and cut in to small pieces. Keep aside.
  2. Roast the grated coconut adding little coconut oil till it becomes golden brown. Keep it aside for cooling.
  3. Grind the roasted coconut with roasted red chillies, tamarind and raw coriander seeds to a fine paste. Keep aside.
  4. Chop 1 onion into fine pieces.
  5. Heat oil in a kadai add finely chopped onion and fry it till it becomes golden brown.
  1. Chop 3 onions in to half inch size pieces.
  2. Now add these onion pieces to the fried ones , sauté for a minute. Add little water to cook the onion.
  3. Add ground masala  and salt to it.
  4. Add cooked potato pieces and mix well.
  5. Sauté till it becomes dry. Now pour the remaining coconut oil over it and mix well.
 Batato Piyava Song is ready to be served with hot rice.

    Add few pepper during grinding. This gives good flavour.
