Are you searching for an easy yet tasty saaru recipe ? Here I am with such a yummilicious saaru/rasam to be had with rice.Bimbul is otherwise called  Birmi karmbal/illimbeen puli/bimbili,   etc in various languages. It is very good to lower cholesterol.Similar saaru can be prepared with tamarind or brined gooseberry in place of bimbul.

Ingredients:
  1. Bimbul-4-5 nos
  2. Sambhar Powder-1-2 tsp
  3. Green chilly-1 no
  4. Water-2 cups
  5. Jaggery-a small piece
  6. Salt to taste
  7. Coriander leaves
For seasoning:
  1. Mustard-1 tsp
  2. Hing-1/2 tsp
  3. Curry leaves
  4. oil
Method:
In a pan chop bimbul into round pieces, add slit green chilly, coriander leaves and water.Cook till the bimbul is soft.

Now add a tsp or 2 sambhar powder,a piece of jaggery and hing and bring to boil.
Add a small piece of jaggery

Now prepare seasoning with mustard and curry leaves in oil

and pour on the saaru.

Now yummilicious saaru is ready to serve

Note:

1. If you are a garlic lover, crush a handful of garlic cloves and fry them in oil along with a dry red chilly and season the saaru instead of the mustard seasoning.
2.If you do not get bimbul or not aware of this fruit, just dont worry you can still prepare the same saaru with tamarind juice or with brined Avalo (gooseberry). In that case just skip bimbul and rest of the method is the same.
