This spicy curry is made with the sweet variety of hog plum.Its available in markets in mangalore during season.This hot and sweet curry is a side dish normally had with rice or can be eaten with dosa too instead of chutney.
- Godu ambado : 5-6 nos
- Red chilly powder – 2tbsp
- Turmeric pwdr – 1/2 tsp
- Jaggery ; a small piece
- Salt to taste
For Seasoning :-
- Mustard : 1tsp
- Methi: 1/4tsp
- Hing: a pinch
- Oil :1 tbsp
Lightly Scrape the skin to remove the black stains on the ambado,but retain the skin as it is.Now crush the ambado into two as shown in the pic …add salt.
Now add 1 cup water and cook them in cooker for 2-3 whistle in medium flame.
Open the lid of the cooker and check whether its soft and cooked
Now in a pan heat oil then splutter mustard add methi and hing,switch off gas and add chillipowder ….do not burn the chilli powder n turmeric powder.Now switch on the gas and add the cooked Ambado along with the cooked water and a small jaggery piece.Allow to boil and become thick.
Serve as a side dish with rice/dosa.
