Taushe Pachadi

                   Taushe in konkani refers to cucumber and Pacchadi means salad.This is a salad like recipe which is very simple with few ingredients.This pacchadi does not have curd in its recipe unlike other pacchadi’s where normally curd isused . Mangalorean Konkani’s prepare this on festivals like gowri pooja,chawathi and for shrada’s too.
Cucumber has so many health benefits.They are high in water content.It is known to reduce cholestrol and helps to regulate blood pressure.When Indian cucumbers are used in our daily life,I suggest that their seeds may be removed.It is known that the seeds of cucumber may result in kidney stone.
Cucumbers always let out more water when salt is added to it.So I suggest that it is added / mixed just before serving. Please note that this curry has to be eaten within 1-2 hrs of all the ingredients put together as there are chances of spoiling soon.

Ingredients 

  • Cucumber -1 
  • Coconut grated – 1/2 cup
  • Green chillies – 1-2 nos
  • Ginger – small piece
  • Tamarind – a very small piece

Seasoning

  • Mustard – 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves – 1 sprig

Method

  1. Chop or grate cucumber and keep aside.In a mixie jar add coconut,green chillies,ginger and tamarind and ground to a coarse paste without water.
  2. Mix this masala with the chopped cucumber and season with mustard and curry leaves in oil.
  3. Add salt before serving.

Note

If it is prepared 2 hrs before  meal time  I suggest  – to refrigerate it and keep out 1/2 an hour before serving.
