Mangalore is famous for its wide variety of food.Charmbura upkari is one of its speciality street food.Charmburi is the Konkani word for puffed rice and upkari means dry curry. This is a no cooking snack,so simple, spicy and lipsmacking.Though spicy even small kids are great fans of this snack.
During festival seasons,we have fairs in the temple ground. We friends get together to relish this tasty snack.Usually they are wrapped in newspaper shaped in cones. Its amazing to watch the  expert mixing by the vendors. The memories  of it are worth cherishing  and taste is still lingering in my mouth.

Ingredients:-

  • Puffed rice(churmuro/chirmuri) – 5-6 cups
  •  Chilli powder – 1 tsp
  •  Finely chopped onion  – 1 no
  •  Finely chopped tomato  – 1 no
  • Grated Carrot – 1 tbsp
  • Grated raw mango(optional) – 1 tbsp
  • Chopped coriander leaves – few
  • Coconut oil – 2-3 tsp
  • Roasted peanuts – 1 fist full
  • Lime juice – 1-2 tsp
  • Salt to taste

Method:-

  1. Mix together all the above mentioned ingredients one by one and give a nice stir. Before serving add the charmburi and mix well till the masala  is  well coated .
  2. Serve immediately as the charmburi will lose its crispness due to the moisture in the veggies added to this.

Note: –

  1. The level of ingredients can be adjusted according to one’s taste.
  2. Raw mangoes are seasonal so if it is not available, little more lime juice can be added.
  3. Can prepare this without tomatoes, carrot and raw mangoes too and follow the rest of the ingredients.
  4. Coconut oil is a must and that enhances the taste.
