- 1 sweet potato
- 1 seemebadane / chowchow (choyota squash)
- 1/4 cup bombay rava (fine rava)
- Red chilli powder as required depending upon your spice level.
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
- Pinch hing
Peel the skin of the sweet potato and the chow chow ,slice them into medium thick roundels and dip them in water.
- Take the bombay rava on a plate, add the red chilli powder, salt ,hing and mix well so that it is all properly mixed.
- At this stage check for taste and adjust the salt and chilli powder as once the phodis are done you cannot add them .
- Remove the slices from water ,sprinkle some salt and toss them.
- Roll the sweet potato and Chowchow slices one by one in the rava mix and keep aside.
just before closing the lid
- Remove the lid and flip them to other side ,drizzle some oil and cook for further 2-3 minutes without the lid.
- Check if its done by pricking with a fork or knife.
- Cook for 1-2 minutes more if required and switch off.
Tava fries are ready to be had with lunch or dinner as side dish 🙂
- You can use vegetables like potato, kantola(phagil) , raw banana, bread fruit, nendrabale (kerala banana),cauliflower etc to prepare the phodis with the same method.
- Do not keep it longer on the tava than mentioned as it will make the phodis hard .
- Some sprinkle water also to ensure even cooking but I prefer to cook it in steam only except for the radish ones.
- Below are fries made from Kerala banana(nendran) and raw banana.
